The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Jeff Garrett: This issue was one of the favorites of the late collector Robert Kruthoffer. In the 1970s he recognized the rarity of the issue. Most of the known examples are circulated or in the lower range of Mint State. Very few have been graded at the Gem level and prices escalate rapidly for high grade examples.
