The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
A very rare date in the long Coronet series, and one that can certainly be considered underrated. Only 35 proofs were originally produced, and while Akers gives no range for the numbers of survivors, Breen estimates that approximately a dozen survive today. We believe they may be even scarcer than that, and we quote Akers conclusion about this date, '...very rare and for some unknown reason (they) have appeared at auction less often than similar or lower mintage proofs of many other dates.'
