The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Jeff Garrett: Despite the continuance of World War I, the production for the Indian Head Quarter Eagle actually increased somewhat from the year before. The date is quite common in all grades below the Gem level and can be found with little difficulty. Amazingly, only 7 coins have been graded MS 66 (11/12) and none have appeared at auction in recent years.
