The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Of this issue, David Akers states: 'A total of 125 proof 1882 gold dollars were coined and survivors number between 45 and 55 pieces, an abnormally high percentage of which are not particularly choice. Unquestionable Proof-65 gold dollars of this issue are exceedingly elusive in the experience and grading standards of the present author.'
