The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The 1921-S was an indifferently struck issue, since the Mint was obligated to coin silver dollars in unprecedented quantity to back silver certificates. The wreath, in particular, is usually mushy. Leroy Van Allen and George Mallis, in their Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Dollars, write: "A fully struck piece with good luster is very rare."
