The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Released only as part of the 1970 Mint Set, the 1970-D was the final business strike issue of the type struck with a 40% silver alloy, although silver clad Bicentennial Halves were later produced. 1970-D Kennedy Halves were worth a substantial premium above face upon issue, yet are virtually unheard of in the MS67 grade, most likely due to indifferent strikes and handling at the Mint.
