The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Collectors of Barber halves are well acquainted with the 1914 issue, one that is foundationally rare in every grade because of its minute mintage of 124,230 pieces. At coin shows, even worn AG3 examples of this issue are elusive, and middle-grade examples are virtually non-existent.
