The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
David Bowers, writing of the 1946 quarter in his Guide Book of Washington and State Quarters, says that: 'Although World War II was over, consumer goods remained scarce. Bank-wrapped rolls of quarters continued to be a popular investment. Today, choice 1946 quarters are easily found.' MS67 pieces, however, are scarce, as evidenced by the population data.
