The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The New Orleans Mint delivered 2.4 million quarters in 1904, a total that is not inconsistent with most of the other O-mint deliveries in the Barber quarter series. By today's standards, however, this issue's original mintage is paltry. Since few Southerners in the early 20th century deliberately preserved the products of the branch mint in Louisiana, the rarity of this issue in high grades is such that only the most fortunate collectors will have the opportunity to acquire a Mint State specimen.
