The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Just in time to quicken the young hearts of many of today's collectors, the 1960-P and 1960-D Large and Small Date Lincolns caused a sensation at the time of their release. The year also marked the first issue of Coin World in April, further fanning the flames of a speculative fervor that would last until 1965. After Coin World published the story of the varieties, fifty dollar bags of bank-wrapped BU 1960-P Small Date rolls would at one point soar to more than $12,000. The 1960-D Lincolns were always more available than the 1960-P cents.
